About Stanstead

When people think about the town of Stansted, Essex all they can really think of is the airport that is situated there. Of course this is fair enough given that it is one of the busier airports in the country but the town does have a lot more to offer if only you scratch the surface a little bit. Like any town that has some famous landmark that people know it by, there is a lot more to it than meets the eye. First of all, Stansted is a great place from which to base a trip in the area. In fact, it might just be that you have just arrived from some foreign country in order to take a holiday in London but it might well be a good idea to first take a day or two to explore the area to the north. Surrounding the town and some other lovely little towns to visit as well as some great countryside as well.

If you are looking for a bit of history and old architecture to feast your eyes on then Stansted Mountfitchet is a great place to start. This old Norman castle has been around since the eleventh century and has since been reconstructed in order to make it a popular tourist spot. In addition to this there are also lots of museums that you can choose from in order to quench your thirst for a bit of history. The aviation museum is particularly exciting if you are keen on the history of flight and there are loads of old aircraft from all of the worlds for you to gaze upon and take some snaps of.

If it is summer and the weather is nice then you can even simply enjoy the surrounding countryside areas and take picnic or just relax and wander around the town and do some shopping.
