About Barcelona

The dynamic capital of the Catalonia region, cosmopolitan and full of life and colour. A combination of fascinating sights and monuments, the harbour and a beautiful sandy beach on which to relax and soak up the sun. A stroll down the famous Las Ramblas from Plaza Catalunya to the Monument of Christopher Columbus on the harbour front, soon conveys the atmosphere of this energetic city. Watch the world walk by on the smart Paseo de Gracia, the elegant shopping boulevard of Barcelona, where you find famous Gaudi buildings. Old Barcelona is visible in the atmospheric Gothic Quarter with its narrow cobbled streets, old houses and churches.

Gaudi buildings are very distinctive in the modern architecture of Barcelona. The Sagrada Familia, the Park Guell, Casa Batllo and Casa Mila are famous landmarks. Modern art is not only visible in the street but also in the musuems. There is a Picasso museum with 3000 works of art, the Miro Garden and the Iberian Museum.

There is an amazing range of bars, discos and night-clubs, open until the small hours, featuring madern, jazz and traditional music - or you may prefer a night at the opera. In summer enjoy the music and the bars of the Spanish village, the musical dancing fountains at the Palau Nacional or the lively waterside scene.

Enjoy traditional Catalonian cuisine or tapas in the Gothic quarter or fresh seafood in the open-air harbour restaurants. The bars and restaurants around the University area are very original and less touristic prices are reasonable.
