About Port Elizabeth
Although a fairly sedate provincial city, Port Elizabeth is well placed to make the most of good but quiet beaches and interesting history-rich countryside.
The city also makes a good base from which to visit the Addo Elephant National Park and the scenic Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area.
The area saw the first meetings, and clashes, between Khoikhoi, British, Dutch, German and Xhosa people.
The 1820 settlers from Britain landed here, and there are still many well-preserved buildings from the era throughout the region.
